“What’s your crime?”
But with a retired judge, a former prosecutor, and a defense attorney around the table, the night turns into a playful courtroom game. As the alcohol flows, Traps confesses his hidden sins and hypocrisy, and uncomfortable questions are thrown back at the audience. Based on the original work by Swiss playwright Friedrich Dürrenmatt, the black comedy The Trap challenges the audience’s conscience. More important than legal guilt is moral responsibility. Traps ultimately admits his own malice, forcing the audience to reflect on their own. Staged in a three-sided arena where the audience becomes the jury, participants directly witness the progress of the trial and confront choices and conscience alongside the actors. Featuring veteran actors Park Geon-hyeong (Traps), Son Seong-ho (Executioner), and Nam Myeong-ryeol (Retired Judge), the play delivers gripping tension and immersion. The Trap runs from November 7–30 at Sejong Center S Theater. A black comedy where a midnight feast, alcohol, and a game-like trial lead to laughter, discomfort, truth, and self-reflection.
